PCA 2023: Arango Cigar Co.

Despite the name, Arango Cigar Co. offers much more than just cigars. If you ignored the name and just walked by the booth, you would probably assume it was strictly a pipe company, considering the number of pipes that are always on display around the edges of their booth.

Once you wander inside and start having a look around, things become a little more clear that they carry cigars, cigar accessories, pipe tobacco, pipes and pipe accessories. It’s a fairly extensive portfolio of SKUs.

And, of course, the giant pipe sculpture made out of pipes is back at the corner of their booth. With the company’s booth placement each year and the specific placement of the pipe sculpture, I would be a little disappointed if I walked into the show floor and didn’t see it greeting me every year.

This year there were no new cigars or cigar accessories, strictly speaking, that Arango was showing off. What was on display were several new im corona lighter designs and finishes. Corey Gold of Arango explained that despite being marketed towards pipe smokers, many cigar smokers also buy these Japanese-made lighters. As the exclusive U.S. importer for im corona, the Arango booth was the place to learn more about them.

I have been smoking cigars since 2005 and reviewing them as a hobby since 2010. Initially, I started out small with a 50-count humidor and only smoking one or two cigars a month. Not knowing anybody else that smoked cigars, it was only an occasional hobby that I took part in. In March of 2010, I joined Nublive and Cigar Asylum, connecting me with many people who also shared an interest in cigars. Reading what they had to say about brands I had never heard of, I quickly immersed myself in the boutique brands of the industry and it was then that cigars transformed from a hobby into a passion.
